This is a great thread, honestly, how many of you know a lot corvette guys thought you knew all about the F-41 option. Just as everyone thought/ think 63 cars did not come with Knock Off wheels. We are all here to learn, so have a open mind. Phil 8063

Just picked my car up this afternoon, haven't had much of a chance to go over it yet, but so far I am really happy, as I was strapping it into the trailer, I was inspecting the front sway bar, and it appears to be 13/16" but I will have to take an accurate measurement when I get home tomorrow, the 7 leaf rear spring is so clapped out it has to be original, it is sitting almost perfectly straight with 3"spacers on the ends just to get the car to sit right. I only drove it from the transporter to my trailer, but I've never had a corvette without power steering, and holy crap what a difference , it's like turning the old 71 international crane truck we had at a sign company I used to work for.
      More tomorrow!

When Joe Lucia and I wrote an article for the Restorer 6 or 7 years ago on the C2/C3 HD rear spring, we stated for '67 the following F41 ordering requirements:

        Ordering requirements: L-71 or L-88 (note 1)
Number of '67s with the HD spring: 2,198

note 1: Although Chevrolet ordering requirements specified that F-41 was available with these engines only, a small number of cars with other engines MAY have been originally equipped with F-41.

For the life of me I can't remember the basis for that note, which applied to '67, '68, and '69. I hope Joe can remember and that he chimes in.

FWIW, I went through the GM Canada microfiches that I happen to have, covering about 280 of the 396 '67 Corvettes delivered to Canada in that model year.

I counted 30 F41's, and they were all on L71's. I should have also totalled the number of L71's, as my impression was that the majority of L71's also had the H.D. suspension.

There's a measurable difference in wire diameter between base and F40/41 front springs. Download the '63 and '67 Corvette Vehicle Information kits from the GM Heritage Web site. Pages 21 and 81 of the '67 pdf specifies wire diameter for base springs.

The F40/41 front spring wire diameter is listed in the '63 pdf.

Now it makes sense why. The 7 leaf must have been changed from 9 leaf previously. So this car did not have F40. Now it's more clear to me. Could you describe which ECL codes apply to those with F40/F41?

              Rich -

If you have Noland's Vol. II book, look in the option section of each year's chapter for the F40/41 description for each year and the box will show the ECL codes that apply to each available combination.
