Stupid question? 1963 VIN tag, new 63-64 Judging Guide

I can't help but feel this is a stupid question, but today I was explaining to someone that the '63 VIN tag was spot welded, not affixed with rivets. I went to give the person a page number reference in the new '63-64 Judging Guide... and I can't find it anywhere. I see 2 references to the Trim Tag, but I flipped through the whole JG and dont see this reference.Someone please point me in the right direction?

Steve, The JRM is not the only book used in judging - the birthday book, NCRS 1953-1967 Corvette Specification Guide, etc. The 1963-1964 JRM states the Team Leader checks the VIN plate (page 7). If you look at page 3 of the NCRS Spec Guide (full name above), it states 1963-1964 VIN plate is spot welded to the body hinge pillar brace. Don H.

I'm aware that the info is listed elsewhere and I did see that reference to the Team leader on page 7- but that also mentioned the trim tag which is detailed twice in the JG.So, by this answer, I'm hearing that the welds on the VIN tag (actually anything about the VIN tag) is not listed in 314 pages of the new JG? I'm pretty surprised.

Don't be surprised Steve. There is no mention of the VIN tag in the 300+ pages of the new 1968-69 TIM&JG either. There is no mention of the VIN tag in the 1970-72 TIM&JG, but that is an "older" version.

I have not perused every judging guide, but I would hazard a guess that any mention of the VIN tag in any of the manuals is the exception rather than the rule.

It goes without saying that many newbees use the JG as a guide to preparing their cars for judging. No doubt there may be cross references included and they rightfully should get every guide/reference they can get their hands on, but many won't/don't.

Inasmuch as without the VIN tag or a valid State-issued VIN tag, the car will not be judged, I guess I share Steve's "amazement" that in a manual that went unrevised for 15 years and then was "revised" twice in two years that at least a picture of the VIN & Trim Tag were not included.
