like to address some items in the new judging manual. will address items such as #847 distributor and exhaust manifolds on the 55 in a later post. at this time I like to address the washer system for 55. judging manual states that "at some point between 1955 vin 500 and 577, the plunger-style pump was replaced with the lever- style foot pump (from early 1953); this time with a foot pad." first item to address is the foot lever that I have seen on 53s is longer than a 55 foot pedal. as for change in pedal, dave suesz's #518 has always been one of the cars that was used as a example for other 55s. 518 and every car ahead of it(with the exception of cars that appear with 3-speeds) have the plunger. it is true that after #518 the lever- style appears. what the judging manual seems to suggest is that the plunger- style did not exist late in the 55 run. the plunger-style (with washer jar), reappear throughout the 600s. what can be seen on the later automatics is predrilled holes for the washer bag brackets(used only with the lever-style foot pump), but the brackets and bags were never installed.
