Thanks Patrick; I didn't know that. Let me rewrite the questions:

While researching how the wiring harness and its bracket should be positioned behind the alternator of my 1970 454, I found this thread which just confused me.

    - The photos in Dino's post dated 4/15 at 3:29pm (all CT) and Alan's post dated 4/15 at 5:19pm are small blocks (I think). So those didn't help with my 454.

    - Regarding the photos of Paul's 1972 Bowtie posted 4/15 at 9:42pm... Was the harness really pinched between the alternator and bracket as shown? This doesn't seem proper since the wires might rub as they go between the bracket and alternator case.

    - Could someone post a photo for a 1970 454 with PS? The photos posted by Paul 4/16 at 7:39pm are too small to see details.

The only reference in AIM I found is page 12-A7 (Electrical section), which shows the alternator clocked for a small block. Nothing in the LS5 section.

    Thanks guys!

Here is one from a 1971 from the Ed Foss collection. 4 Star Bowtie, BG Benchmark, etc. I think it will help.

        Thanks Patrick!

After researching this, I came to the conclusion that the ground wire terminal was bolted to the alternator underneath the harness bracket. In your photo, it looks like the wire terminal is on top of the bracket.

Thoughts about this? (One thought I have: I'm getting way too detailed with this hobby...)

I think it would depend on which guy was installing alternators that day.

            Too funny.

EDIT: So it looks like Paul's 1972 Bowtie was assembled incorrectly, meaning the harness should not be pinched between the alternator and bracket...

              Funny maybe, but likely true.
