    door panel vapor barrier kit

Has anyone purchased and installed the door panel vapor barrier kit part # 13807K from Paragon? They claim it is a performance update over original style paper and plastic barriers that attaches with pre-applied updated butyl bead technology and features much improved water leak performance and reduces interior noise levels by 30 percent. I am not having my car judged. Any thoughts would be much appreciated.

    Thanks,
    Tim

Tim, I don't think there is a lot of room behind the door panels on 63/64 corvettes. I really don't have any info on paragons barrier for the doors, If they have to much thickness it may cause panel to not sit flush. How about something like dynamat attached to the inner part of the door??

Thanks Ed. Yes, I installed HUSHMAT inside of my doors (inside portion of the outside door skin) as well as under my entire floor under the carpeting etc. including the tunnel and rear compartment. That seems to be working nicely.

I too, was wondering if this new vapor barrier might be too thick and not allow the new door panels to seat flush against the door. They were highly recommended in the Paragon catalog to fit C2's and reduce interior noise levels by 30 percent. They should arrive at my house today or tomorrow and I was trying to get feedback from anyone who may have already tried them. I will keep you posted.

I installed those barriers in my '67 and they fit very nice. They have some nice weight to them similar to what Dynamat might weigh. No problem with installing the new CA door panels either. The doors have a little nicer sound when closing. I doubt they reduce noise that much, but I do think they reduce any noise from the doors a little bit, even with side exhaust.

            Scott,

Thanks for your info. It is good to know yours fit nicely. I was hoping they would help to make the doors sound a little nicer or more solid when they close as well as reduce interior noise and provide better protection from water etc. I know they are hollow right now without door panels but I must admit they sound a bit cheesy. I also know I am breaking the Cardinal rule of: Restore it how it was, no better/no worse. However, I do not show my car even though it is pretty "correct".

Hi Tim, I agree with Scott. I installed them behind my door panels recently and they fit nicely. I purchased the black adhesive that comes as a roll on waxed paper and applied it to the doors in the same location as the original adhesive. It was messy to install and to clean off my fingers, but it does hold the vapor barrier in place and allows it to be removed and reinstalled. The vapor barrier that I purchased is basically a thin foam pad and, in my opinion, does make the door sound more "solid" when closing. I'm not sure that it helps with road noise, but I have a convertible with sidepipes so who really knows. It might help with the top up and windows closed or if you have a coupe. Good luck, Roger

Isolating noise thru the doors is ridiculous. If the door hardware is rattling, then fix that. The magnitude of the noise is from the floor and air leakage around windows and weatherstrips. Convertible top fit is another biggie. As a door moisture barrier plastic sheet 8 mil thick will do that. It will not affect the door panel fit. No need to purchase some reproduction if your not going to flight judge. Dura matt (or what ever your preference) the floor for the most gain in sound elimination.
