The AIM manuals show screws and fasteners by part number. Is there a listing of the description of fasteners by part number? Specifically I am trying to find out if the screws that fasten the sides of the center instrument cluster in my 75 to the dash panels on both sides are black or chrome and the size of the screws. The AIM lists the screws as 9414752. Without a description the part number is no help. I don't recall ever seeing this type of list. How can I get a description?

Re: Description of fasteners by part number
Some of the fasteners (but not many) are sold over the counter and are shown in the "Standard Parts Section" (Gr. 8.899 to Gr.8.984) in the vintage 1963-1969 Chevrolet parts catalogs. There are also GM Standard Parts Catalogs available. I have the Oct. 1978 and the Oct. 1988 GM standard parts catalogs. You can find these catalogs at swap meets and Ebay but there are not really that helpful. I bought my standard parts catalogs at swap meets for about $5 each and that is all they are worth.

Re: Description of fasteners by part number
GM # 9414752 is listed in Gr. 8.977 (sheet metal & tapping SCREWS) in my 1969 Chev. Parts Catalog (Oct. 1968) and described as "Oval Trim Cr. Recess - No. 6 Hd.", point style "BA", No. 8-18 X 1/2", and Chrome. The "A" & "BA" point style is the standard sheet metal screw point.

Re: Description of fasteners by part number
Hi Greg!
One of the best ways to search this site is using the GM part number. I would suggest giving that a try. Also, Don Olson has converted many of the AIM documents into searchable databases that he gives away. I don't know if he did 1975 or not. Check out this thread:

Re: Description of fasteners by part number
You have to identify the fastener id number from the illustration drawing and find it on the description page. The fasteners DO NOT carry the part number from the A.I.M. and have Group Numbers of 8.9XX. My Parts and Illustration Catalog (1982) does not have any other specific information on the fasteners as to black/chrome, etc. However, it is useful information about fastener sizes.Judging Chairman Mid-Way USA (Kansas) Chapter- Top
