    Alternator I.D.

    Further to my recent thread about my battery problems, I've begun an effort to re-establish what I did back in the early 90's with my alternator(s) as it now affects my battery charging problem;

    The alternator I now have on the car and it is now suspect as the cause of my problem is a:

    1100628-37A
    361-12v NEG

    I now blieve this to be a replacement 1969 unit I got from "Chicago Corvette" (sorry, but I lived within 15 minutes of their place back then).

    I have another unit that looks to be my original that I apparently never restored. It is a;

    110063 (rest filed off)
    9J10 12v NEG

    Now then, being away from my reference books, can any one ID these two units???

    I have the correct SHP pully and fan (loose) to go on a third alternator that was a new unit I bought from Sears back then. My intention is to put this one on my engine and then restore one (or both)of the above units. I also have another new (correct) Voltage regulator, but I'm considering trying to get a new solid state unit to go with my new Sears alternator in order to get back on the road.

    Thanks for any help you can offer.

    The 1100628 was used for some 1963-64 Corvettes as well as other applications. It was the base 37 amp unit, just as yours is marked. The date code doesn't look right so I can't say when it was manufactured.

    There was no alternator of GM #110063. If you mean GM #1100633, that is a 55 amp unit used for 1963 Corvettes. This one was manufactured on October 10, 1969 so it was originally a SERVICE alternator.

      Joe;

      Thanks for the quick response. On closer inspection, I believe the date code to be "3G1" on the 1100628 on the car, and therefore probably my original. Thanks for straightening this out for me. The other one I have then (the 110633) is the 69 replacement. Odd that it looks to be in scruffier condition than my original. Perhaps it was a used one.

      Regardless, the 1100628 unit on the car failed the diode test while the 110633 passed.

      Thanks again Joe. Have a great weekend.
