Re: New 63SWC owner with many questions

Thanks for the help thus far. The final details are coming together nicely. Two questions today:
This connection (orange wire) enters the firewall from the engine compartment and just doesn't look "right" to me. AIM and other sources are not helping me to identify the correct configuration or if this is actually correct. Ideas?

I ordered a replacement clutch anti-rattle spring because the AIM showed that it should only have a short spring section with long end arms. Please direct me as to which of these looks more correct- the new in package one or the one currently attached. On another note, the new one has more of a gloss black finish and the finish on the one currently attached seems more like correct black oxide finish. I ordered a replacement upper spring as well and it has the same glossy finish so I left the current spring (same design but better black oxide finish) in place.

The spring on the bottom not installed is the correct type.

Changed spring out to new one. Guess I will change the upper spring also so that the two springs have the same finish.
Ideas on the connector entering the firewall? Just looking at it, I want to pull the tape and check underneath then slide black rubber boot up to cover the connection.

          Christopher,

The blower motor has been changed and the replacement blower motor has a spade connection on the hot wire. The 1963 motor used a pin type connector and if you look at the plug with the boot there is a male pin that's made to fit the female plug on the motor.

It's not a very good repair so make it safer and if you want look for a 63 motor.

The upper spring is not painted GLOSS BLACK like the lower.
Use your old one that is not glossy to be correct

              Gary,
What issue of the Restorer was that in?
              Thanks,
              Tim

Chris, in the interests of good mental health, do NOT change anything else on the car to conform to the 4th Edition of the Judging Guide. Wait for the 6th.

Thanks for all of the input y'all are providing. I have changed the upper spring back to my original, good looking, black phosphate spring. I changed the lower one to the newly received, correctly shaped spring, though it has more of a gloss black finish than I would like (at least the springy portion looks to be accurately formed).

I am using the 6th edition of the Judging Guide as my reference. I realize it would be 4x as thick if it had a really good description of every single part and a photo or two but that would be nice. Hopefully someone is working on a 7th edition that is digital.......including a full color slow video up, down, and all around the most accurate example of a 63 available. Search for the area I am working on, pause the video, maybe put my cursor on the part I need and it automatically links to a part numbr and a purchase source........dreaming a little now

Great idea, Chris...I think you should start on that as soon as your car passes flight Best of luck!!
