    Re: Reproduction front end

I was discussing this thread with a friend and he made a statement about reproduction I never heard. He said tha a 1967 BB hood is an obvious reproduction when you lift it and feel the weight. He says it is much heavier than an original. I never heard this before. Is that an obvious thing?

I think that is mostly true of hand-laid versus press-molded. Hand-laid tends to be thicker and heavier. I wouldn't think aftermarket press-molded would be noticably different than original. And you don't need weight to tell hand-laid from aftermarket press-molded and/or original, i.e. backside as discussed above.

I'm going to say that Robert's friend was likely correct.

2 years ago we were judging a car at Bloomington and the car had a reproduction press-molded hood. Terry M can verify that it was noticeably heavier than an original hood. Once we noted this, other subtle differences were present as well.

My assUmption is that a 1967 is likely heavier than stock as well.

Can't speak to 1967s, but for C3s all one has to do is look at the side of the hood to see the difference in thickness to note where the increase in weight comes from.

That was a fun day, eh Patrick?

Yeah, we have some good ones down in IL, now to be IN.
Never a day without some good, um, discussion.
