57-64 upper dipstick guide tube #3732488 - straight or bent at socket?

Could someone tell me if the upper Dipstick guide tube GM #3732488 for 57-64 should have the socket bent or straight where it fits to the lower guide tube? I just got an original dipstick and I notice it doesn't want to fit through the tube, whereas a thinner more flexible dipstick (similar to 69-71 corvette dipstick) that was there before fits fine. Was wondering if I have the right upper dipstick guide tube? See pics.

Enclosed is a NOS 57-62 Corvette upper dipstick tube, GM # 3732488. The 63-64 tube, GM # 3826074 was replaced in Sept. 1974 with the 3732488 tube. I do not know the difference between the 2 tubes.
