I am restoring a 1965 coupe. I have the firewall out (long story). What is the proper paint finish for the plastic pass through vent ovals that are bonded to the corners (not the grills). The originals appears to be similar to the "flat chassis black" but its hard to validate due to age...just wanted to make sure before I recondition them. I searched first but couldn't find any information. Thanks

If you mean the "stovepipes" that contain the vent doors and are later covered by the screwed-on black plastic kickpad vent grilles, you're likely to find either nothing or body color overspray from cutting-in the body opening jambs. The carpeted kickpad and plastic grille covered them completely.

Re: 1965 vent duct finish
Yes John, those stovepipes are what I was inquiring on. Mine appear to be black in finish, maybe just the natural material color. I'll wipe them down with soap/water to insure it is not just grime but it appears too uniform for that or overspray. I'll post some pictures since I have them out of the firewall. I presume them to be original not reproductions.- Top

Re: 1965 vent duct finish
sorry for the delay in re-posting this information. Thanks Gary, those look just like mine when I removed them...kind of a faded black. Upon further inspection and in validation of John's post...they are "natural" in color, which is a press molded charcoal color fiberglass. There is evidence of overspray (both primer and body color) on the stovepipe.
Here is a pic of one removed from the firewall and after some cleaning with soap/water.
