Windows XP New PC $100 Trade In Credit at Best Buy until 4/19/14

The IT Team normally does not post this kind of information - but for those NCRS members who are still using Microsoft Windows XP and want to purchase a new PC - Best Buy in the U.S. is offering a $100 trade in credit for a new Windows PC when a working XP PC/Laptop is turned in now through April 19th, 2014.

Link to Best Buy’s $100 XP trade in http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Computin...at327400050019 is a $25 gift card and a $75 coupon for a new Windows PC. Don’t know if that includes Windows tablets or not.

Yesterday, I used this $100 XP trade in for a new laptop for my Spouse. Laptop had a $399 list price. Best Buy had the same new laptop in an "opened box" for $347. After applying the $100 XP trade in credit, the net price was $247 plus sale tax.

Needless to say all the old software, personal files, logins and passwords need to be removed from the XP trade in PC/Laptop.

Very good advise from GaryWindows XP and XP Pro is as good as dead - anyone running it should upgrade to 8.1 very nice - continued running of XP could result in putting your system at risk for infection and/or corruption of hard drive, mother board, and flash drives if attached.

I wonder if my employer's IT team will get the message. I am sure we have thousands of computers running XP Pro.

Terry XP Pro may get an extension - but it's time appears to be limitedAs of April 14th (you know, the day before we give the government all our money), Microsoft will change the support status of XP from mainstream to extended. When that happens, all users will continue to get security patch updates, but hot fixes and any larger upgrades to the operating system will only be provided to companies that are paying for them. In other words, Microsoft will not be making any more functional enhancements to XP for users like you and me, when it switches to extended support. What does this mean to you? First, you better upgrade to XP, Service Pack 3 as soon as you can (if you have not already). Once Microsoft pulls that you may not be able to get it. Read the XP FAQ about this release for more information as well as direct links to the site. Also, once you have upgraded to XP SP3, backup your computer with this new software installed – just in case the unimaginable happens. My advice to back up your computer should not be a surprise to you

with the deal Gary found it does not make any since to stay with XP or purchase any hardware with XP installed. I loved XP & XP pro hated Visti and never upgraded to Visti - decided to go to 8 last spring and found it very robust compared to XP - just converted to 8.1 and would not go back to XP or 8 - just my 5 cents worth

I wonder why they take only laptops?
