    degraded tank sticker

I think that I will not find any information on that piece of paper.

Do not give up hope yet. Mine looked very similar to what I see in the pictures. Many years of dust and road grime were resting on top of my gas tank along with the sticker. When I eventually took it down I used a light paint brush to dust it off and it looked great.

    Best of luck,
    Monte

You never know what you have until the tank is out of the car.

I purchased a ladies makeup brush (VERY soft bristles) to wipe away the dust from the paper document.

I then looked into removing the paper from the tank, but mine had so much glue on it, I just left it on the tank. I think put plastic over it and taped off the edges to prevent the sticker from degrading any.

Completely agree with Monte. The dust and dirt may have been your best friend in preserving your tank sticker...think Pompeii

on a 67 I owned you could not even see the sticker until the tank was dropped. after brushing off the sticker was readable and pretty complete so drop the tank be prepared to replace all the hardware and straps. post pic after.

The other thing to consider is having someone familiar with photo editing software scan the document and try various effects. My document was reasonably legible except for two or three of the options. A friend scanned the document, did different highlighting, reverse colors, contract etc and within about 10 minutes you could read everything on the scanned copy. I was amazed to be honest.

He is absolutely correct. Soft make up brush took 47 years of dust and dirt off mine rendering it totally legible....and not faded....Do it....ARA

                Re: degraded tank sticker

I worked with a fellow who bought a '67 435 back when tank stickers weren't a big thing. He pulled his tank and found the sticker covered with a bit of everything. He wondered what was on the sticker and as we talked one day another employee mentioned his brother worked at a museum and did restorations. The sticker was sent to his brother and returned looking very good except for a few torn and missing parts. If you have a document restorer nearby try them. Gary's suggestion is also very good and a lot less expensive. Steve
