    C2 Speaker

There is always that rare, elusive and expensive speaker on Ebay for AC cars. The number is 7282256. I don't believe it was ever installed on 63 cars with AC. Looking at the 63 AIM all I see is 7282156. I have the 7282156 in my AC and non-AC 63's.

Can anyone look at their AIM and see if 7282256 is even referenced?

Yes, the 7282256 has a lower profile and will accommodate an AC car better. I tend to believe the 7282256 was a Service Part and not original to any C2.

An FYI the 466XXX on the speaker, the XXX represents the year and week of production. So 466250 would be the 50th week of 1962.

    Re: C2 Speaker

    Harry,

Then maybe your 63 is really a fake AC Corvette since it doesn't have the right speaker.
Please check and make sure the motor has not been restamped! Have you had this fake 63 AC judged yet?
Do you know what a correct AC box looks like vs. the 64-67??
Have you checked the trim tag and does it look like it came from Lubbock TX.???
A great way to ward off the judges if everybody else's AC car is wrong also! Way to go Harry!!!

JR, yes to all the questions. Judging on May 9th.

I'm just looking to help folks not spend $300.00 plus dollars on something they don't need.

I cannot find any reference to a 7282256 speaker in my 67 AIM, under C60 or the radio sheets....

            Re: C2 Speaker

There was a thread maybe a year ago that substantiated the -256 as being introduced later as a service replacement. No references to it in contemporary service/parts manuals, as well as AIMs.

The above is correct, I believe this story started in FL at a swap meet

I have a fairly complete set of GM radio service manuals ('63 thru '67) for every Corvette C2 model (985396 [63]; 985921 [64]; 986281 [65-67]), published at the start of each model year.

Every one calls for speaker 7282256 as the service unit. The 7282156 is the factory installation, C60 or not.

Yes, I cannot find that GM #7282156 was ever available in SERVICE although I can't absolutely rule out the possibility in this case. GM #7282256 was definitely available, though. It was discontinued without supercession in 1981.

I remember buying a speaker for my 64 AC Coupe in 1980, only one available was listed for AC, but would fit 'all' 64s. The old one I removed was slightly different, but I really just wanted a good speaker. Think I threw it out years later, wish I'd saved all that 'junk' to look at now. Oh well!
