A friend has a silk banner that we believe came from a local Chevrolet dealership. It is about 4' X 4' with an ornate wood rod across the top. A braided rope is tied to each end of the rod to hang it on the wall. There is a gold, braid fringe along the bottom about 10" long. The background is a silverish-white and appears to be silk (not certain on the matierial). In the center is a large circle with CHEVROLET CORVETTE around the inside of the circle's perimeter. In the center of the circle are the vette cross flags with a gold colored inverted wide v-shaped symbol in the center. We can't be sure but believe it may be from the mid fifties into early 60's. The condition is very nice. He is offering it to me, but it is expensive. Has anyone ever seen one and/or can you tell me anything about these? I suspect they are relatively scarce and quite collectable. However, I may be all wet. I'm intriqued by it but am hesitant to spend the bucks. Any thoughts or advice will be appreciated. I don't have a photo. Thanks all, Michael Kalogridis (518) 248-1105

Re: Chevy Corvette Dealer banner.
Michael, posting a photo would help. Then the NCRS guys that know about collectibles might be able to give you an idea. Gary....NCRS Texas Chapter

Re: Chevy Corvette Dealer banner.
Thanks Gary, I need to go back and get a better look and some pictures. I don't think I have a lot of time to decide on buying it as there are other local guys expressing interest. I have first refusal. Thanks very much for responding! mk- Top

Re: Photo of Corvette dealership banner.
I persnally have never seen one like that. I would suggest you try to get a response from both Gary Chesnut and Howard Baker. They both frequent this board but a private email may be needed. If it is a real GM item it will have signficant value. If not, it is not nearly as collectible. Good luck with it. Its a great looking piece.- Top

Thanks Dave, Apparently GM distributed them to their dealers in the 50's. mk- Top

Re: Photo of Corvette dealership banner.
Michael,
Are there any markings or printing on the back side or on the front edges?
As Dave said if it's a GM item, then it could be valuable. If it was a GM item, then I would expect some kind of markings on it somewhere. Very few GM items do not have a trademark or copyright with a date.
With no markings, that would decrease the value. With no markings, the item might have been made locally, depending on the size of the dealership and how many Corvettes they sold.

Re: Photo of Corvette dealership banner.
Michael,
Mr. Baker and I think the value with no trademark or copyrights the value in the $200 to $250 range.
With GM trademark or copyright the value $250 to $350.
Hope this helps. Keep us posted.

Re: Photo of Corvette dealership banner.
Michael, I saw one similar years ago in a Chevy dealership parts dept. area along with a bow tie banner of the same size. As I recall the banner I saw did not have the crossed flags and "V" in each corner. I have no idea if it was GM or of the value, sorry. Steve- Top
