    KYB Shock Absorbers?

I have a '77 L48, and the shocks are original to the car. None are leaking, but the bushings are showing their age. Since there are no correct shocks available for these cars, has anyone bought a set of KYB gas-a-just shocks for their late C3? If so, what are your thoughts on the difference in ride, and how close they come in resembling the original shocks. If I bought a set of these I'd paint them the correct color prior to install. Thank you.

    Craig,
I have used KYB gas shocks on two C2 and one C3...absolutely there was a difference in the before and after ride. Much more controlled ride and, IMHO, just firm enough. I have them on my current '67 L79 coupe and they are painted to resemble stock. My car is a very nice restoration that will probably never be judged so I don't worry about originality with items like shock absorbers. I like the advances in technology over originality in some cases. Solid state VR would be another non-stock item on my car along with LL pointless ignition. Small things for driveability that do not permanently alter or hurt the value of the car.

I added KYB Gas-A-Justs to both smallblock midyear Coupes as well as my '64 GTO Hardtop and like the ride and handling. Are they 'adjustable' - no. Are they the best shock out there - no. Are they a decent shock absorber for a reasonable price - yes.

Craig, a friend and I tried various shocks on his '69 BB and my '77 provided by one of our sponsors. We had KYB's, Bilsteins, and Koni's. We each liked the KYB's but found the rebound, response, handling, control, and ride of the Bilstein's and Koni's better to our liking. The KYB's are good. Steve

Thanks gents, I really appreciate your thoughts! My '77 is more of a cruiser, so it sounds like the KYB's will be fine. I had Konis on my GT350 and loved them. Currently a set of 4 KYB gas-a-just shocks delivered is $106.03 after the $40 rebate. Hard to pass that up, so I ordered a set after thinking about your postings. Thanks again!

Craig, you can't beat that price for quality shocks, especially all 4. Steve
