Does anyone have a good picture of the hinge pillar weatherstrip installed on a 66 convertible. JG states that there should be three screws, and a rivet was "used horizontally at the point where the weatherstrip returns from the body to the post". I see where the screws should go, but I can't see the rivet.

Re: 1966 convertible hinge pillar weatherstrip
Jeremy, There were several variations of hardware used in this area from '63 to '67. The fastener is a metal pushpin on '67's, rivet on '66's. Here's a '67 which is similar. I think the rivet goes where this pushpin goes on yours. It's up near the corner where the vertical piece starts. This rubber had it's tab torn off where the pin normally goes through by a prior owner. But you can see where it goes.

Ref '63 coupe. Quite different. 2 screws and a rivet IIRC.

Re: 1966 convertible hinge pillar weatherstrip
Well mine had metal push pins, though one was vertical and the other horizontal (everything on this vette is at odds). I think I see the pin in the photo, is it going through the weatherstrip? If it is suppose to go vertical like you say, why the JG say "used horizontally at the point where the weatherstrip returns from the body to the post"?- Top

Jeremy, that pin on the '67 went in but the rubber was cut. I found remnants of the old pins in there and were likely holding a tab of the rubber on the original.
I'm not sure about the '66 though. Hopefully someone with one can post some pics.

Re: 1966 convertible hinge pillar weatherstrip
Jeremy, as you may know, the '66 AIM calls out a 'tape' (I assume a sealant) 8" long underneath the weatherstrip. Underneath this was a sealing compound. On the coupe this was a sealing compound liberally applied which oozed out around the weatherstrip. I am not sure if the tape would show once the weatherstrip was screwed on.
Also, looking at the AIM for the convertible I don't see where either a push pin or rivet is called out (rivet is called out on the coupe). The sheet I have is revised 2-9-66. Maybe the push pin was added but never called out?- Top

Re: 1966 convertible hinge pillar weatherstrip
James, The one I worked on was a convertible. Sorry if it appeared I was talking both that, and the coupe.
In the '67 AIM I have Sheet ASM F16(revised 8-26-66) shows the pushpin item 14 4653672 for the 19467 convertible. You can also see the tab in the rubber for the pushpin to hold. The rivet item 11 3828470 is for the 19437 coupe. It looks like a rivet in the picture. They are both named "RIVET" in the parts list, but shows different part numbers and obvious visible differences.

Re: 1966 convertible hinge pillar weatherstrip
By the way, does anyone offer a good repro for this piece of weatherstrip? The one I got from CRC several years ago was not very accurate in the area of the pushpin (or screw) in question.

Re: 1966 convertible hinge pillar weatherstrip
Well I know what the AIM shows for 66s, but I understand you can't always go by the AIM. The Judging Guide calls out for three screws and a rivet. It also says there was no weatherstrip for 66 coupes, where as the AIM shows it.- Top

Re: 1966 convertible hinge pillar weatherstrip
Richard/Jeremy
I talked to our friend Mike at CRC/MMRI today and he confirmed that there were indeed 3 different weatherstrips used, 1963, 1964-1966, and 1967. The '67 version was the last service part offered, and is what CRC/MMRI based their repro w/s part on. This is why it differs from my original w/s as shown in the pics below. It does not have the extra material or tab as seen on the (old) original part.
Mike also mentioned that they didn't have any plans to offer the 64-66 version at least at this time.
Didn't mean to hijack Jeremy's thread, but thought the clarification on the w/s differences was pertinant to the attching issue as well.
