    Re: Temp sensor swap

I too bought a replacement sender from O'Reilly's (BWD brand - supposedly Wells TU-5 replacement) and had the same problem. Went to AutoZone and asked for a Wells TU-5. Their replacement is Duralast, but they assured me it was made by Wells. Works perfectly on my '63. Also recommend the no teflon tape approach.

Thanks John, I will search for it, looks like an interesting read

Did you try the 1513321 with the teflon tape removed and cleaned up? Did you install the BWD sender with teflon tape?
Joe...it was too hot to do any swap outs, so tonight I took out the 1513321 and put in the BWD brand. Interestingly, the new BWD from O'Reilly came wrapped in Teflon tape... which I removed and cleaned out the threads in the block.

Unfortunately, it is way off. It was pegging out the needle at 250 with the outlet temp at 190. Next I tested the 1513321 with a multimeter and hot water. It was reading about 200 Ohms at 190. I have not tested it in the block without the Teflon on it, it was too hot to swap. Not sure if it will be worthwhile though, since bench testing it seems to indicate it is bad

Kent...looks my experience with the BWD brand matches yours, will check at Autozone for the Duralast
