    1961 Battery Cables

Question Does anyone have a picture of the original Battery cables Ground and positive.I searched and could not find any.I believe mine are the original Spring ring ones. and are pretty beat up.I bought a set from paragon and returned them did not seem even close and felt kind of cheap for repros. Thanks

I didn't think '61 used spring ring cables. Maybe a change for late cars? 62 uses them for sure.

My 1963 Chevrolet Parts Catalog (Oct. 1962) lists GM # 2979805 in Gr. 2.342 as the "+" cable and GM # 3716571 as the (-) cable for 55-61 Corvettes.
My 1957 Chevrolet Parts Catalog (Mar. 1957) lists GM # 3716571 as the (-) cable for 55-57 Corvettes.

I sold my 1961 Corvette Parts Catalog years ago.

There is a NOS 2979805 cable currently on Ebay (not mine) for big $. The 2979805 cable may or may not be correct for a 1961 as parts in the parts catalogs are service parts and not necessarily the exact same as assembly line parts.

I'd say that 2979805 is a service replacement for many.

The 1961 AIM shows terminal clamps with bolts
        + 3750025
        - 3716571

The 1962 AIM shows Spring Ring terminals
        + 2979911
        - 2981079

I replaced what I think were the original battery cables on my '61 (built June 1961) many years ago. They had terminal clamps with bolts. I don't think GM put on spring ring terminals until the 1962 model year.

Apparently the 3750025 cable was also sold over the counter but was discontinued in June 1962 and replaced with GM # 2979805 according to Chevrolet Parts History.

Bill, How are you doing? I have not seen you for a while. I looked at your pic.s it appears like the braded cable surely appears to be original. The other appears to be a Delco replacement. As you found out, Some of the repro stuff is not quite as expected I have found this out all to often with my 63 and 72 cars. Are you planning on getting your car judged this year?

Are you tackling the transmission yourself? If you need a hand let me know. I also have a supplier to work with for parts.

So is that to say the ones on the vendor sites are not actually correct (e.g. Paragon & Corvette Central)?
William, could you post another picture of the clamp end of the negative cable? Also what length is it?
Anyone have an original positive cable of which they can post pictures?

On the '61 negative cable, which starter bolt does it attached to?
