    Cleaning Heads

What can I use to clean the surface of the head where the manifold sits on?
There might be some residue thats on the head that is causing the silicone from sticking, which is causing a leak. Would acetone work without causing any harm? Is there anything better out there for cleaning? Thank you

Morris, Brake cleaner solvent or carburetor cleaner just spray some on a rag and wipe clean, I would do the same with acetone. be careful around painted surfaces with any cleaners.

      Morris,
Take a right angle die grinder with a fine scotch bright wheel and follow up with solvent cleaners. Be sure to cover up engine valley area. Vacuum up when done.

          John,
I have to admit I didn't read down to the bottom but in yhe profecinal world Gene's works fine and maybe what you read is saying not to tyr this at home , leave it to the pro's.
I see it all the time in shops and it has to be done by a expert. Just like using a abrasive on paint to buff it out, you can go right down to the primer if you do it wrong.
The paper filter will pick up the smallest grit but I see the shops use rags in the ports and in the valley area.
My son has the pads & air tool that Snap On sells to do what Gene suggested.
Your point is good, don't get me wrong, but Gene's way is used all the time with a sharp eye.

Dom, GM came out with a TSB many years ago about the use of those rotary cleaning disc.s and they really are against the use of the disc.s. There is so much debris that flies around from those disc's.
Not to say that a lot of people do not use this its just the out come later down the road .

              Ed,
Actually I don't use them but the shops here do and I can see why they don't want sloppy mechanics using them. There are both kids around here.

Once found sand in a pan and the filter cought it but oil pump was not happy. we have to cut oil fiters and inpect the lamintons and you would be supprised what the papper catches.
