Thats really low for a L71 even for a #2. is it Green? Originality is suspect. most likely motor was replaced or worse it might have been a small block. is this car in Ohio by chance outside of Columbus?

Re: Back after a decade and have some questions

      Dave,

Just the opposite occurrence....3+ years ago I inspected a '67 for Jim Gessner's(vettefinderjim) client from Norway. It was a L71....... with a 283 in it. Long story short, the Norwegian bought the car and we built it back to original with a period correct block, carbs etc. Prior owner had it since 1968, blew up the 427 and put a small block in it. Story upcoming in a future Restorer article.

The other way happens too. So I'd take the advice of others and get someone very knowledgeable to inspect the car with you to help your decision. For now, here is a thread that has some info you're looking for that may help with a list of unique L71 items to look for in Post#6.

        Ara,
I don't want to hijack this, but what did you mean about a black car? Black for 67? Or black for a mid year? And why, are they also faked for the color code?
        Thanks,
        greg

Greg, with anything collectible, things are faked. Black mid year vettes are very sought after....as are real 435 cars...so black cars are faked as well as 435 cars and others. It's a shame but true. Each car is judged on its own merit, but scrutiny applies commensurate with legitimacy. Real cars do well...but fake cars are still out there. With buyers you hope due diligence ad common sense are applied prior to any money changing hands. Ara

Thanks, Richard, those pictures are very helpful, how would I go about finding an expert to look at the car?

              Dave,

Where is the car? We could probably hep you better if we knew that.

thanks Ara, my 64 is a black car and I'm glad to hear I've got a nice color choice (I like it). I'm stripping off the yellow that was painted over the original black now (along with the black). It is legitimate so I hope I won't need to defend it during future judging.

                    Hi Dave,

You might try the North Central chapter or the regional director for North Dakota. Here's the contacts list:

Another option might be to contact the 67 team leader (Nick Culkowski). Also, I have heard that Mark Donnally and Dick Whittington do inspections. These three gents can be contacted through this board.

Re: Back after a decade and have some questions

Joe, just a thought - before you pay someone to inspect the car. Have the owner pay to get Al Grenning to certify the motor. if that checks out then put some money into an inspection.

Brrrr, still pretty cold there. If it was Fargo, Florida I could probably help.

Another option is to contact Jim Gessner, via PM here, and he may know of a contact in ND that could help.

Hi Richard, since I posted this, I have been in touch with vettefinderjim, and he told me that all the big block cars, have a 3/8ths fuel line that runs on top of the frame all the way back, after looking at your photo, it seems like the fuel line, drops to the outside of the frame rail just before the battery compartment, also when you say 90 degree bend, are you referring to the , roughly 3" diameter bend in the line, or is there something I can't see just after that?
i am going to have the owner have a look at all this stuff for me and take some pictures, tonight, I am thinking that if that clip for the TI ignition is there, that it was probably a 435 horse car.

                            thanks,

                            dave

TI (K66) was an option on other than 435 hp cars. 5,759 were installed. It was required on 435 cars. ;-)
