With the idler pulley belt removed, should the idler pulley (bearing) make ANY noise at all if I manually spin it with my hand?
With the engine running and both the idler belt and alternator belt installed, I am getting a very faint noise (hard to describe/whirring) that I did not used to hear. I removed both the alternator/fan belt and the idler belt and now I am not hearing the noise. Therefore, I am wondering if the idler pulley bearing is going bad due to possibly over tightening the belt recently. The idler pulley assembly is "relatively new". It's been on the car for many years but I only have about 3,000 miles on a complete restoration. When I spin the idler pulley manually with my hand I am hearing what I think is the same noise that I recently began hearing with the engine running.
Any thoughts would greatly be appreciated?
Thanks,
Tim
