    67 side pipes

    I purchased a 67 "327", 300hp car.
I noticed the tank sticker data indicated 02N14AA side exhaust option.
I've since read that small block cars only came with side pipes with the optional "350"hp and not the "300"hp.
Off Road Exhaust option is #N11, never seen option N14
Does anybody know if this is correct?
    Thanks, Ron

Per the 1967 Corvette Dealer Order form, Both N11 "Off Road Exhaust" (3 or 4 spd only, as Larry mentions), and N14 "Side Mounted Dual Exhaust (Off Road Service)" [available with anything in '67] have the dog-whistle words "Off Road" in the description. This means that both these exhaust systems are louder than the base exhaust configuration, and to let the buyer know that they were fairly warned, in case the law gets involved.

See TSB for what happened with early '69 Camaro and SS Chevelle chambered under-car exhaust, which was standard, and I believe had the same diameter and (guessing) the same number of chambers as the C2 Corvette N14.

Ron, I knew a person who ordered and took delivery of a black/black vinyl '67 coupe with 300 HP, 4 speed, red lines, and side mounted exhaust. A great looking and sounding car. I even got to wash it once. Steve

Thanks for all of your input.
These pipes are plently loud enough, they sound great, always wanted a side pipe car.
It came with air, leather/, bolt on wheels and 4 speed. Enjoyable car.
          Thanks, Ron

One of my friends bought a new '69 Camaro "in the day" and ordered the chambered exhaust. It was LOUD! No cops ever made it an issue, but it generally wasn't abused in their presence.

Well, they sound great. I just don't rev it up next to cops, but them seem O.K. cause it's factory.

Did AO Smith also produced 327/300 HP cars with side pipes?

NO! No A O Smith bodies with factory side pipes.

Ron, welcome aboard! Sounds like a great car you got. Like Ken said, if you have an AO Smith body, then side pipes were not available on your car. Only St. Louis bodies could have side pipes. Also, why don't you have your tank sticker validated by the NCRS/Roy Sinor. Then you will KNOW that the sticker is real. Congrats on the new purchase and have fun....bring it to some NCRS events....ARA

Steve, that's ironic....as I own the original owners kit for a 67 black/black coupe, 300hp, 4 speed, side pipes, red lines that sat in GM's display back in 67 and wasn't sold. After the 68's came out, the original owner bought it for a song and took delivery. I contacted the current owner and he said he could care less about the owners kit (which includes the owners card with VIN on it)...ARA
