I recently had my iron powerglide rebuilt and was advised to used Dexron II Fluid. I've check with GM dealers in the area and they claim it's been discontinued and the only fluid available is Dexron III. Any recommendations?

Goggle Type A for additional info and places to purchase.
I would install Dexron III and be happy.

I think Dexron III will be fine. According to various sources it was developed to correct some corrosion issues with Dexron II….and is backwards compatible. Of course you can always fill with OEM Type A. I believe a few places still sell this.Goggle Type A for additional info and places to purchase.

I think you might even have trouble finding Dexron III these days. It's been replaced by Dexron VI. It can be used for the Powerglide. In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Pat, There is no need to pay the extra cost of Gm dealerships Dexron fluid, just head to your local parts store, most of the fluid for transmissions are multi use. Just read the bottles, they will tell you there compatibilities, and pick a brand name you like. Todays trans. fluids are far better than the past.New England chapter member, 63 Convert. 327/340- Chapter/Regional/national Top Flight, 72 coupe- chapter and regional Top Flight.- Top
