65 and 66 AC Hot Water Shutoff Valve Position

Helping a friend with a 65 with AC.

The position/clocking of the Hot water Shutoff on a 63/64 is the vacuum hose is at the 12 O'Clock position and the hot water hose is at the 6 O'Clock position.

While getting his car ready for judging I noticed that his is mounted in the reverse. Vacuum at 6 and hot water at 12.

Now I have a beer bet on this.

To you 65 and 66 owners with AC how is your hot water shutoff positioned/clocked?

    Thanks

Thanks Mike, I looked at the 63 AIM and it shows the vacuum at 12. I look at the 65 AIM and it shows the same. Did something else happen that overrode the AIM?

I have no idea if mine is correct but my '65 vacuum is at 12. Don H.

          Harry,

Check out my post a few down from yours Titled " Thanks For the hose routing pics. That is how it should look as per 66 AIM. I'd say more like 1 and 7 .

Mine is more like vacuum at 12:00 and hose nipple at 6:00. Using Corbin clamps only. Don't forget the bracket to firewall and the clip that holds the assembly together. I got my parts from Long Island Corvette Supply. Looks and works great!!

Nice work, Tom. Who did your wiring harness?

Here are those pics from my other post , and how the 66 AIM calls for it , at least the AIM I have . I guess it called for different clock positions for different years . However the red car is a 65 so maybe it's a late one.

                  Leif,
I used Lectric Limited when Willcox was having their 20% off sale. I only did the firewall forward and the A/C harness. The rest of the car appears to have been replaced years ago but is still in good shape. My car is a 67 by the way.

1965 AIM UPC C60 Sheet E6 (view B) should give you a very clear idea about the positioning of the valve. The valve in this picture appears to be 180 degree off.

Yes, we did go over the AIM but there is some evidence from untouched cars that they were installed in 65 and 66 with the vacuum at 8 oclock and the H/W hose at 2 oclock. We're just trying to figure out if the AIM was the target and the actual installation was hit and miss on the line.

I just finished re-hosing my 65.....the 2:00 and 8:00 positions are the only practical way to route them...love Jim S.'s pics...I did not see pics until after I completed the job...BTW where did the restorer obtain the logo'd hoses...they are great...

                          Harry,
The 8:00 and 2:00 position is about what the AIM indicates. The idea is to keep the hoses as far away from the exhaust as possible. Point is that the coolant outlet is facing up and the vacuum nipple is facing down. With it reversed you would have an " interesting" heater hose routing.

OK , so maybe my original post stating 1 and 7 was a little off , an it s more like 2 and 8 .

                            Eric,

I can't speak for the red car , but I purchased all my hoses from Long Island ,If you are still interested .
