    69 L36 Vacuum Advance Hose

Where should the hose on the vacuum advance connect? As long as I can remember it's been connected to a three port connector at the back of the intake manifold. The other two hoses are connected to the power brake booster and the vacuum tank.

I have the car in a shop now and the shop owner is questioning it's location. I can't find anything helpful in the Chassis Service Manual or the AIM, but I could be overlooking it.

    Thanks,
    Mike

See your PMs. I believe it attaches to a metal hose that goes to the front of the carb.

Patrick, is correct, I don't believe I that I have ever seen a vacuum advance hose hooked directly to a intake manifold fitting from factory. There is generally a metal tube on the carb. Not that its a bad thing where you have attached. as most want direct manifold vacuum to dist. vacuum advance, but there must be a tube on carburator you can use.

This is the setup for a 67 L36 with a holley carb... I assume yours would be similar. The white stripe hose comes from the vacuum advance.
There is a support bracket from a manifold bolt the holds the tube. Its under the black hose (hard to see in photo)

Yes. The 69 L36 is similar to Stephen's photo. I have a 69 L36 so that's what I know best but I don't recall the set-up being any different for 69 base cars Q-jet carbs. The installation and part number are shown on pg J206 / 6-C1 of the AIM. As in the pic for the above 67 L36 there is a metal clip that secures the spark pipe. It has a black phosphate finish and originals are stamped with a "C".

Re: 69 L36 Vacuum Advance Hose

            Thanks for the replies gentlemen.

I've either found the answer to my question, or I'm misinterpreting what I found. Please see the attached image. It's from page J338 of the AIM and seems to confirm that my hose is correctly connected (between the vacuum advance and the three port fitting on the intake - no metal pipe/tube). I assume that "PROD. SPARK HOSE" in the drawing does mean vacuum advance. Am I wrong? BTW - I do have power brakes (J50).

If there's consensus that my connection is correct, I'll post a new thread asking for suggestions to possible causes that led to my original question.

            Thanks again,
            Mike

Re: 69 L36 Vacuum Advance Hose

Yes Joe, it does have A/C, but not installed at the moment. Power steering and 4sp if that has any bearing.

The A.I.R. is currently removed, so I have the port on the right side of the Q-Jet carb capped off. I can't get to the car until Monday to confirm, but I don't think there are any other capped or plugged ports on the carb or elsewhere.

                Thanks

Gary, I see your photo and it looks just like mine. Now we have to look elsewhere for my issue (missing at all rpm's - load or no-load). I'll start another thread for that.

Thanks a bunch Gary and all.

Here is how I think the vacuum line ran on the 68 L36 with A/C. See mine has the two ports, no power, as Gary has the three.

                          Michael,

If you have determined that the miss gets better when disconnecting the V/A, double check the distributor centrifugal advance to be sure it's not rusted or gummed up and sticking. That should be very easy to do and eliminate from the troubleshooting.

Could it be possible the timing marks on the damper are not correct and the timing is set more advanced that what's reported.
