67 Windshield: E-Z-Eye Shaded Soft Ray or Shaded Soft Ray?

I have a 67 coupe with a February build date that has what appears to be an original windshield in it that needs to be replaced. As I looked at the options on replacing it, there are not E-Z-Eye options per the judging guide, Shaded Soft Ray only. It does have an original XZ date code so now I'm wondering what could have happened or if this is an anomaly? I suppose i'll want to replace the windshield witht the appropriate "Shaded Soft Ray" per the judging guide so I don't get a hit on points.

Any thoughts on the origin of E-Z-Eye?

    Thanks,
    Mark

Shaded soft ray means there is a green tinted windshield with a blue shadeband across the top....Shaded soft ray I believe is the GM trademark......LOF trademarked their glass as EZ eye.....of course LOF was OEM on Corvette, but when PPG made glass for GM vehicles they used Soft ray logos as well, I am not sure what the proper logo for a windshield on a 67, but if it came tinted and tinted with shadeband (AO1 and AO2) the logo would be different......Also there was a big difference between Safety plate and Safety Float...sometime in 69-70 time frame Pilkington invented the float glass process of making windshield glass and all autoglass became made from float versus plate.....

the TIM&JG has very good descriptions on the exterior section #5. you should not be able to feel the "S" inside or outside

The car did come with a tinted windshield per the tank sheet. I'm just trying to figure out how the E-Z-Eye verbiage above the Shaded Soft Ray got there on an original windshield. Again, maybe they did occasionally have them in inventory and install them at the factory with that logo. FYI, it also is a Safety Plate Laminated version.

I agree, the descriptions are very good, and no, I can't feel the S inside or out. It is not a reporduction windshield. It's the original that has been in a barn covered in dirt since the late 70's. Just trying to understand the windshield mystery since it doesn't fit the JG description on the options available. It's an orignal 70K mile SB L79 car with headrest seats and shoulder harnesses.

Do you have a blue shadeband along the top of the windshield, about 3" from the top, you should see AS1 marks and arrows by the a pillar? the shadeband would not go below that.

Agreed. That is the description of my current windshield.

                Mark,
I can't shed any light on your question. I can tell you that my convertible with A02 (per tank sticker) has the etching identical to the one on the lower right on p. 67 of the JG. It is also a VA dated glass. (As are the right vent and right door window) Left vent and window are both NZ. For a mid-May car, that seems pretty early (although with the allowable 6-month slot). All are definitely original pieces on the car. Sorry I can't help any more than that as a frame of reference.
