Fire wall insulation/heater box mounting

Hi folks,

I installed the firewall insulation and noticed that the insulation has knock outs cut for what I assume is to go over the studs on the inner box.

My question is this, does the insulation actually get crushed between the box and firewall or should it be cut out "around" the box so the box fits snug to the firewall?

I've ordered heater box gasket set but would like to keep moving on fit and finishes while I'm waiting.

Hi Chuck,On my 71 the original firewall insulation blanket is actually 'crushed' (I'd say partially held in place) by the heater box.Regards,Alan

That's just what I was looking for.
I assumed as much but wanted to be sure before I put it all together to find out it's wrong.
