Regarding the 59-60 High Horsepower Harmonic Balancer, is the p/n: 3764318 visibly stamped/casted on the Balancer and if so where? Also, is there a date code stamped as well? If so, what format does the date code follow? Many thanks in advance.

Re: 59-60 High Horsepower Harmonic Balancer- is p/n: 3764318 visibly stamped on Balan
Mark, I had one a few years ago and honestly don't recall seeing any part numbers or date codes stamped anywhere on the surface. I went solely by the configuration and research that I had done to identify it. I will be interested to hear if anyone else can verify that there were part number stamps and or dates on these.

Re: 59-60 High Horsepower Harmonic Balancer- is p/n: 3764318 visibly stamped on Balan
Mark, The post I referenced with the photo of the 1960 FI balancer IS YOUR BALANCER for your 270 car also , USE THAT PHOTO AS A GO BY (I checked EBay and didn't see any today) Part # 3764318 1960 HIGH HORSEPOWER balancer (also fits 1959 270 & 290 hp) though most EBAY listings don't mention part #'s as it is not stamped into it SO USE THE PHOTO to go by from the 283 High-Horsepower Harmonic Balancer Pic Needed thread from Jan 2013 as a go-by for yourself. Paul may be able to help. You could post a Wanted ad in the online Classifieds and the Driveline.
Here's one for a '61 SHP I have here under restoration........no numbers anywhere I could see. I recently had it refurbished at Damper Doctor in California. Pics before it went out there.

Hey Richard, Could you tell me the exact diameter of your balancer? Seems like I've heard 6 1/16" and 6 1/8". Also the width of the top and bottom step in the side view picture? The two steps do not appear to be the same width - one is wider than the other, and I think yours is original, not machined by Damper Doctor, right?Last edited by Ian G.; April 26, 2014, 12:39 AM.- Top

Re: 59-60 High Horsepower Harmonic Balancer- is p/n: 3764318 visibly stamped on Balan
Right, original, but rebuilt by DD.
OD......It's a fat 6-1/16", more like 6-3/32", not 6 1/8". My caliper stops just shy of it's max at 6.09" and needs a little more.
P4260098.jpg
I get apx 0.670" width at the outer ring, and the inner area is about 0.530" wide.

I just set my camera to macro, hold still, and push a button. It's a 14 year old 3megapixel Olympus, incidentally, which I dropped about 2 weeks ago, flat on it's back from 3 feet on to my shop floor. The front lens and ring flew off. I though it was dead and time for a new one. I cleaned the lens, snapped in the ring, and turned it on......Incredibly it still works.

Oh, those are color lol. everything was steel, or iron, or grey backgrounds, that I thought it was sepia tone (that's the old-timey black and white where it looks brownish).- Top

Re: 59-60 High Horsepower Harmonic Balancer- is p/n: 3764318 visibly stamped on Balan
Well I had my harmonic balancer rebuilt by Damper Doctor and it is VERY passable. If anyone's interested in doing this, they came off a 1964 Chris-Craft boat. I'm going to use a friend's compressor texture head to add some texture to the underside of the ring, since there is no cast-feel there when machined (or originally on the core). However, I thought the core had the little indent drilled out based on "before" photos, and it doesn't. Can someone advise if this would affect it's rotational characteristics appreciably? For example, maybe it's there to offset the balance of the Duntov cam in some way? In other words, I want it to judge, but also to work well.

Ian,
I believe that drilled out area on my balancer here(your 3rd pic above), is part of the HB manufacturing balancing process. I suppose some are drilled deeper or shallower than others.
If you sent it for rebuild, I'd think that they would have checked balance and adjusted it accordingly. if needed by drilling to change the weight at the appropriate area.
Maybe give the DD a call to verify. When you sent it in, did he ask what the application is? He asked me when I sent this one there.
