Judging differences--original 63 dash knobs and bezels vs. repro

A friend is doing a 63, and was going to order new reproduction knobs and bezels. Then asked me about the differences. Since I'm not a 63 guy, I told him I'd ask. Attached is a picture of his originals. Are repros detectable? How?P3122591.jpg

Mike, the re pops judge pretty well. No deducts on my 63. But they will cleanup and repaint better than expected. Strip the black paint with acetone then paint them with semi flat. Blits Black or krylon semi flat. Wait a few hours then scrape the paint off the arrows and letters with a sharp razor. There are other ways to do this, there was a thread about 2 weeks ago on this topic.

The knobs should clean and polish OK. I'd only replace them if they were deeply scratched or nicked.

I'm about to put my originals back on the car.

I agree with Harry if you have the originals it isn't that hard to clean and paint. I needed to replace the missing radio bezels (mine were missing) there is a noticeable difference in the font and the edge is finish a little different. It passed judging but it was slightly different.

Thanks fore the input guys. bob, your response is what I was looking for. My friend will decide if he has the interest in redoing the originals, or buying repros and saving time. If there is a noticeable difference in the font, that's what will help him make the decision.
