Tim, chances are your night vision was a lot better then. Of course, that doesn't address any other issue that may have made it difficult to keep the car pointed straight late at night back then...
The newest thing in the market is LED sealed beams. These offer much more light and low power draw, ideal for a C2. Unfortunately, I have found only 7" bulbs so far. Maybe the two suppliers (Sylvania and GE) will offer the smaller bulb later.
