Good luck John. You have a great opportunity with that '62. I've followed it since we conversed about the early ones around the time I got my #483 back in 2008.

Looking forward to seeing # 29 this summer. # 52 lives two blocks from me and that owner and myself are working on gas tank cover retainers. Are yours original and if so can you post a couple of photos, please?

David, are you talking about the "j" nuts & screws? I don't think I have any pictures of them.

Two photos of screw and J-nut from my 1962 gas tank cover. Guess this is what you are looking for?

Screw is 3/4" long, including the phillips head which is about 3/8" diameter. Flat washer on screw is 5/8" diameter.

                Dave,

I purchased my 62 in April 1965 being the third owner. Car had 28k miles so it was basically as delivered from St. Louis. Mine is hardtop only and the gas tank cover was painted with the body but without the screws installed guessing that the assembly line had to do other work in the tank area before screwing it in place with 18 screws. Consequently, the screw fasteners are black finished as delivered from supplier and therefore unpainted. Caulking was laid down along the cover/body contact area B4 screwed in place for final assembly. This was to ensure a good seal to keep gas fumes and dust from coming up into the interior.

                Hope this answers your question.
