    C2 Windshield Lower Trim

I am in the process of prepping my '67 convertible for a repaint in the cowl area and am having a bear of a time trying to remove the lower outer stainless trim. I bought the "T"shaped trim removal tool (which did not include directions), and tried twisting, pulling, and various combinations, but have been unable to break the trim loose. I doubt that the trim has ever been removed as there is lots of crud in there. What am I doing wrong? Not pulling up on the trim hard enough? I located the clips underneath, and tried twisting the tool to no avail. I am reluctant to use a lot of force for fear of damaging the trim. I bought new clips from Paragon, but it looks like they are held to the body with screws. Is there another clip on the trim that snaps into this clip? Also, does the windshield weatherstrip need to be removed to screw the new clips in?
Lots of questions I know, but could not find all the answers in a search of the archives. Any help would be appreciated.

You hook the clip with the tool and rock it back. That opens the clip and allows the trim to release. Be carefull. Pull up easy and work your way around.

Phil:This particular piece of trim causes the most trouble for many. The cross-section is roughly a "T" and the leg snaps into the retaining clips. Installing new clips requires removing the windshield. Use a plastic putty knife to break loose any sealant between the trim and rubber. As Wayne said, the tool hooks the clip and a rocking motion spreads it open. I use a plastic "J" tool made for removing trim to gently pull up while spreading the clip. The trim piece doesn't want to bend in the outward direction, so you need to work 2 or 3 clips as a group before it will pop up. If you decide to pull the windshield to install new clips and examine/repair the metal frame (recommended), you can reinstall the lower molding BEFORE the glass. Sounds flaky, but the glass/gasket just slides down into place behind the trim.

OK guys, I think I get the procedure. The car is still in the storage bag, but will probably get back to working on it in a couple weeks when weather warms a bit. Thanks for the help.
