    1963-4 wheels

I have a couple questions regarding the 63 -4 wheels. Are the reproduction wheels detectable on the judging field ?

What wheels are interchangable on a 64 ?

Bob, I heard that there is a company that maybe starting the process on the repro 63/64 wheels but not sure that they are released yet. as far as judging goes only time will tell, If there are configured correctly they likely will not have a problem. when the wheels are on the car about the only that can be seen is the back side of the wheel it should have a taper.

I agree with Ed, there are no reproductions available anywhere at this time.

        Robert,

I believe you will find that 63-64 15" GM truck wheels are interchangeable with the 63-64 Corvette.

My 1963 Chevrolet Parts Catalog (Oct. 1962) lists GM # 3825686 in Gr. 5.803 as the wheel part number for 1963 Chevrolet police cars and 1963 Corvettes. My 1964 Chevrolet Parts Catalog (Oct. 1963) lists GM # 3839814 as the wheel part number for 1963 Chevrolet Police cars and 1963-1964 Corvettes.

I have had at least 6 or 7 original 1963-1964 Corvette wheels (dated 1/63, 2/63, 1/64, 2/64, and 5/64) back in the 1980's. I also once owned a NOS 3839814 wheel (15X5 1/2K dated 3/65 with 3839814 white GM sticker) which is very similar to the 63 Corvette/Police wheel except that the hub hole was slightly larger (2 29/32" dia. instead of 2 25/32" dia.) and there was a 1/8"+/- dia. hole in one of the 5 "nubs" on the face of the wheel for what reason I have no idea.

According to Chevrolet Parts History (for over the counter parts) GM # 3825686 was replaced (the term "MIX" was used instead of "USE") with 3834127 in Jan. 1963 and then replaced with 3839814 in Oct. 1963 and then replaced with 3838080 in May 1966. As far as I could tell there was absolutely no difference between the 3825686 wheel and the 3834127 wheel. I believe that the 3838080 wheel was original equipment on a 1966 Chevrolet Police car. The 3838080 wheel looks like a disk brake wheel and does not have the taper on the back side like the 1963-1964 wheels. I bought a 3838080 wheel from my local Chevrolet dealership back in 1986 just to see what is was like.

The 1965-1966 Corvette wheels (GM # 3869156) can be used on 1963-1964 Corvette (15" X 5 1/2" with the same 7/16" offset) but are designed for disk brakes and are easily detectable on the back side.

I know nothing about 1963-1964 GM truck 15" wheels.

Joe Ray, Interesting info on the GM Truck wheel. Is the part number the same as the Corvette? JD

My 1963 Chevrolet Parts Catalog (Oct. 1962) lists the following 1963 truck wheel part numbers in Gr. 5.803:
              63 Ser. 10 (1/2 ton).......3820758..... (16 X 5K, 6 lug holes)
All the other 63 Chev. larger truck wheels listed have 6, 8, or 10 lug holes
The only 15 X 5.5K wheels w/5 lug holes listed have the following part numbers:
              3748348 (57-62 CORVETTE, 62 POLICE-2nd design)
              3825686 (63 POLICE, 63 CORVETTE)

I do have a 1962 GMC Parts Catalog (May 1962) but it only lists 6-, 8-, and 10-stud wheels in Gr. 19.0010.
My 1963 Chevrolet Truck Parts Catalog (Oct. 1963) only lists large wheels for large trucks.

                JD,

Bought some truck wheels in Alma, AR. that were suppose to come from a 1/2 ton pickup. 5 lug too
Have no idea about the part numbers.
Only wheel I have ever seen and known were the 3838080 that GM sold several years ago. They worked also!

                JR

PS. Bought from a used tire dealer off his rack. Right across the street from Corvette Cosmetics!
