1963 harmonic balancer reinstallation 327/300 need help

    Hello together

Today I am tackling the removal and reinstallation of the harmonic balancer.

Thank you so far, for the tip with the block of wood, etc.

The only problem I have now is, after I "slammed" it back on, that I do not know if it is enough far inside. It seems that it won't move any further.

I measured 25.6mm (equals 1.007 inches) from surface of harmonic balancer to crankshaft.

If somebody could measure that too or provide a photo, I would really appreciate that. I intend to finish this today.Attached are some photos.Thank you in advance.

Ruedi, Here are a few pics of my 63 327/300 hp when I cleaned it up a few years ago. Car isn't here now or I'd measure for you. Balancer was never off afaik. I think you're all set. Looks the same to me. You could do a mockup with the WP & Alt pullies to see if things line up but you may be good.

        Hello Richard

Thank you for your pictures. I tried the mockup with WP and Alt. pullies and they line up perfectly. It seems that this problem is solved. If you have time, somewhere in the future, then it might be interesting if you could measure how much it is.

Thank you very much, work done.

Rudy, Glad it helped. But the car is in Austria now so I can't measure anything from here. Someone else will likely jump in for more info.

            Ruedi,

Keep in mind the inner face of the damper seats flat against the timing gear and the timing gear seats flat against a lip on the crankshaft.

Why don't you try to install the pullies and see if they all line up? It is difficult to tell in a photo but I installed my balancer last summer and I think it went in a little further than yours is.

                  Hello Bob

Maybe you overlooked my post 4. I put on the pullies (water pump, alt pullies) and they did line up perfectly. And the balancer would not move inside any further. But without knowing how much your balancer measures (distance), it's hard to tell from pictures, you're right.

                  Thanks
