    Real vs Repop Y-50 mirror

    I know that real mirrors on 53-62 have a non-stainless ball into the back of the mirror. How about shape of this ball? Are the real ones tapered going to the ball and the reproduction ones straight? I don't always have a magnet with me.

      Originals have a tapered steel stud. In the last few years reproduction Guide Y-50 mirrors have become available with tapered studs. I paid the tall dollar for one and took a 1 point deduct for having a stainless steel tapered stud. Make sure you buy one wth a steel tapeed stud or take the 1 point deduct for a non tapered stud.
