56 VIN tag question

What do ya'll think about this 56 VIN tag. The font of the VIN looks different than what I normally see. The embossed CHEVROLET looks like what I normally see.

On a related note, back in the day you could get a replacement VIN tag from GM. Anyone know what one of these replacement tags looked like.

The VIN tag on an early 1956 I once owned looks just like the photo.

I can't imagine ever being able to buy a blank VIN tag from the General. The tag in your picture looks non-typical to me but a direct email to John St Peter might be a more expedient way to get your answer.

After talking with a number of people, I am now convinced that this is a repo or GM replacement VIN tag.

And no, the General didn't just sell a blank tag. There was a long process involving lots of paperwork, inspection of the frame VIN, a new replacement plate was made and shipped to the requesting dealership, and the tag was applied by a GM official under supervised conditions at the dealership. This is the short version.
