C2 Side Window and Wing Window Crank Position???

From the factory; was there a "correct" position that the side glass and wing vent window cranks where in when the window(s) are closed? I would assume they would or should be positioned facing the rear of the car closest to the driver's and passenger's arm reach? I know this is gatting kind of knit pickiy and isn't a judged item but I was wondering if there was a specified position they were to be installed at.

    Thanks,

    James,

I am going thru the process of fixing my vent wind crank mechanisms on both sides and was wondering the same thing. My thinking was that they should be facing froward (at least the window crank) so they would not hit your knee. i will be posting some pics on some interesting stuff I found on dis assembly.

I agree, in the up position the crank should be forward and away from the knees. Not judged but they would look best if both doors are the same

There was no specified crank position - put it wherever you want to. Fisher Body specified the crank position for window and vent window cranks on steel cars, but Chevrolet had no such spec on Corvettes.

Glad to see the answer to this question has not changed in 10 years.

I know it may be foolish or naive of me, but I would expect if there were a specification it would appear in the AIM at some point.

Terry, what you said makes sense but I never found anything in the AIM. But I always set left and right sides the same. But nothing says that is required by GM assembly instructions neither. Interesting question. I would suggest the GM workers doing this task had a position that they preferred and most are assembled in his preferred position what ever that was.

I just set mine to RH side at 10:00 and the LH side at 2:00. This keeps it up and forward away from my leg.

                    Terry -

At Fisher Body, they described window crank positions in great detail, with illustrations and text, in their "O.D. sheets" (Operation Description sheets), which described everything in gory detail, including the parts, process, tooling, facilities, and supplies like lubricants, solvents, even rags and brushes. The Fisher Body O.D. Sheet package for a body that described the Body Shop, Paint Shop, and Trim Shop operations, had hundreds of pages, and was about eight inches thick, and none have ever been released outside of GM.

I noted when doing my Chevelle the huge difference when Fisher Body gets involved. Having everything done at the assembly plant makes it so much easier for Corvette.

Thank goodness or the specs would be in the judging guides.

if you read his post you would have noted that book was for metal cars with the body built by Fisher Body. And as a owner of a metal car made by Fisher I would like to see that book

Me 2, but on the other hand maybe sleeping dogs are best left undisturbed.
Do you know how many of those books there have to be for each model and then each year? Digitized would be one thing, but paper would fill a good sized warehouse, or maybe several warehouses.
