    Re: C1 windshield

I don't know what Mike's process is, but when I glue the glass to the w/strip, I install the rubber first......

......then using the tip of the glue tube, I peel the rubber back a little at a time while I apply the glue. I put a small amount along the entire edge of the perimeter of the glass. As I glue it up, I use pieces of masking tape over the rubber to both sides of the glass to hold it on. Adding the glue makes it slippery, and the rubber is like a oily elastic band and will slide off of the glass. I let it set up for a 1/2 hour or more. This is important so the rubber doesn't slide off the glass when the frame pieces are reattached. I DO NOT glue the rubber to the frame.

Thanks Rich. That looks like a good method.

I agree with Chester, I had the same problem after I restored the hardtop on my 61hardtop only. The new seal was a lot thicker than the original and I think this is what the cause was but since I was going to do a complete frame off restoration on the whole car I went ahead and took the whole windshield frame out.I was glad I did as One windshield post was broken off and the other cracked. I sent both off to Corvette Central for repair (they did a great job on them) and after a rewire, paint, dash pad and a re-ajustment of the hardtop to post clamps I had no other problems with it. Since the top either soft or hardtop clamp to the windshield posts of the frame it is pretty certain that the tabs may be the problem. stuffing yourself under the dash to get that thing out is no fun! and it makes my back hurt again just thinking about it! Good luck
