1967 Reproduction Finned Bolt on wheels

I have searched the forum and haven't seen much really current on this subject.

I'm in the market for a set of reproduction 67 bolt on wheels. I know that Corvette America and America's Finest Corvettes both claim to have near exact reproductions. Do anyone have any current information on this subject?

    Thanks,

    Don

    Don,
They are both reproductions. They look good and probably work fine.
What else do you need to know?

Corvette America has been in business for a long time and for good reasons! And they have been reproducing the KO wheels and 67 Bolt Ons for a long time! Get my drift!

I trying to decide between the two. Both now say their wheels have been retooled and are correct. Some of the history I found there were issues with the fins being two wide and the color being incorrect. I was trying to see if there was any current knowledge within the membership as to whether one was more close to originals than the other.

        Thanks,

I'm also curious if anyone has actually bought the America's Finest 67 bolt-on wheels. I looked for them a Carlisle but did not find any. The Corvette America wheels I have seen in the past had fins that were noticeably thicker than originals. CA is a good company to deal with and I would rather deal with them if they have redesigned their wheels to be accurate. Have they?

My car is a Canada car with documentation that it had bolt-ons as original equipment, but I am not crazy enough to spend $15k-$20k on a set of original wheels. Even though I will have to buy reproductions, I think it is worth distinguishing between accurate and inaccurate reproductions. We judge the desirability of every other reproduction part on its accuracy as well as its function.

I just spoke to Virginia Vettes, he sells Corvette America wheels at a good price, and the set is complete including lug nuts and the caps. He said the newer CA Gen 4 wheels are very correct. That they retooled everything about 4 years ago and the new molds were made from original wheels.

I'll think I'll go with wheels from Virginia Vette.

Don you did not say if you where planning on using these for judging ? As there are both( A/F &C/A)nice looking wheels. But believe there are some judges that will note the current repro.s over the factory wheels.

                Pat,

My 67 has the Corvette America reproduction wheels, I guess they are not 100% but they look very nice to me. I bought them new back in 1990 for 600. for the set of four.

I remember we made a three set purchase, that price is a joke today isn't it..

CA sent their KO/Bolt-On wheel manufacturing operation to China in 2004, and when the Chinese-made wheels arrived here in 2005, they had "fat fins" (among other problems). It took CA 3 years to bite the bullet and re-tool the wheels, and those made since are excellent. Dick Barron (Virginia Vettes) is an excellent supplier to deal with. Photo below shows an original N89 wheel on the car, and a 2005 CA Chinese N89 wheel next to it with "fat fins".
