I was hoping to buy a Corvette part from an actual Chevy dealer. I thought a driveshaft U-bolt would be something still available. The part number I had was 1358938. The parts guy said the part number was no good and he had no clue about finding a new number if it was superceeded. Is there a new number for this part or is aftermarket the only source?

GM #1358938 is the correct part number but, as you've found, it is now discontinued. There is no direct, supercessive part number. There is a Delco part number for a kit of 2 u-bolts with washers and nuts. That part number is GM #89029372 but it's not an OEM-quality part. Probably imported.
As Patrick mentions, you should still be able to find some of the 1358938.
Another option is Spicer. They should easily be able to supply an OEM-equivalent part. It might be imported, too, but it will definitely be high quality. In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Thanks Joe. I found it under Dorman number 81002 that I might be able to get at Advance auto. Its probably as good as any available alternative.- Top

Yes, James. Those look look some rusty used ones despite the NOS claim. The Dorman ones are 3.99 including the lock washers and nuts. I need 8 of them.- Top

Re: 63 - 72 Drive shaft U-bolt part number?
Yes, I can't find the 4 u-bolts that came off my 67 L-71 when I took it apart many years ago, and that's my immediate need now I am reassembling the chassis.

Also I changed my 70 LT-1 to a big driveshaft even more years ago when I put a M-22 in it, and I plan to put the original transmission and driveshaft back it at some point. I've lost its u-bolts too. I have a big collection of parts as most of us do, but these 8 u-bolts are still hiding in it. In the mean time I thought I could just go to a Chevy dealer for some more. Wrong!- Top

The GM dealer could get you the 89029372 but they don't know anything about that part number because it's not a "direct descendant" of the 1358938. Anyway, the 89029372 is probably the same as the Dorman part.In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top
