    trailer door question

for a 20' enclosed trailer, for the side door which is more secure....cam lock bar or the flush camper style lock with key?
also how far apart should d rings be and how far back from front and rear of trailer, don't like the way the track bar on floor attached, looks like screws hold it down, also seems like if car moved back and forth for any reason, attch in track could come loose.

    Re: trailer door question

    Mike,
I would prefer the lock bar with a pad lock same as flop down door. What is track bar you refer to on the floor? My trailer has "D" shaped flush loops in the floor. They are sandwiched with a lower plate and mounted with 5/16 or 3/8 bolts. They are spaced about 3 1/2 feet apart. As far as placement that should depend on the trailer wheels placement and tongue length to get the proper tongue weight. I use fixed curved wheel chucks in the front to stop the Corvette in the same place. Set straps straight in the front and crossed in the back.

My preference is E track. No worries about spacing

E or L track is what I was referring to I believe, like in aircraft for cargo. This will be for a 20' well cargo with 3500 lb axles, that is all I need for my corvettes. Within my budget and will never buy any cars again, retired now and every penny counts....Dick are you hooking to factory slots on frame or ???...thanks

As usual, Dick W. is spot on...

Use E-Track and Wheel Nets and let your car ride on its natural suspension... I don't even have D-Rings in my trailer... Also get some E-Track Idler Fittings to keep the ratchet straps away from your fiberglass... http://www.macscustomtiedowns.com/product/26/ETrack

Cam Lock for the Door... Hands Down the Best Security...

          Hope this Helps...

thanks, had cam locks on my previous trailer 15+ years ago and liked them. Will look into getting the E tracks also.

E Track works great with the idler fittings. With stock wheels on a C2, the track width from center of tire to center of tire is 57" Mount the E Track centered at that same distance apart to best use wheel nets.
The E Track will also serve as a guild if you have someone directing your drive into the trailer

E-tracks are the way to go. Here is the setup I use. It's not the best in the world, but gets the job done for me. I use straps that have the idler built into it for e-tracks and is designed for very low cars (see attached pictures). 554340_4434917670913_298865969_n.jpgTrailer%20Tape%202.jpg large_552308_etrack_straps_012.jpg

I installed my tracks on 48" center. I personally do not like to drive over the tracks. I like the idler so that the straps do not get close to the lower valance on some of the cars. Rear, when attaching to the factory tie down slots, no problems. I also have e track on the side walls, allowing me to fasten gas cans, tool boxes, luggage, etc.

Last two trailers I have installed e track about 5' above the floor along the side walls. Using logistic bars with a plywood floor installed, I can store smaller items overhead. When I was showing the L/88, I hauled in in the parts trailer with boxes of parts stored overhead of the car.

Dave, no photos and trailer is loaded floor to ceiling, front to back, with items for our next auction. Sorry.

Had this trailer almost three years and only hauled one car, Kermit, back from the body shop

David, it's a 20 foot slope nose from Trailer World. Here is the link: http://www.trailerworld.com/2014-uni...wr-n9h|am.html

I dealt with Keith (great guy). These people are very reputable. They are located in Bowling Green, Kentucky. Oh, here is a different angle of the trailer.

I have purchased several trailers from them, beginning in 1984. 44' gooseneck car/vendor trailer, 35' equipment trailer, 26' stock trailer, 10 ton dump trailer, slant load three horse trailer, and sent several friends there to buy trailers. Unfortunately the trailer I have now is not the quality that they sell, I needed a trailer to move an estate I bought and ran into a guy with a trailer that was 18 months old and needed cash ASAP. If I were buying a new trailer for any purpose they would be my first choice.
