Re: 65 A/C Box in Engine Compartment
I have a 65 A/C car. Located under the passenger fender, directly above the Engine compartment A/C Box mounting area, on the firewall, are 3 drilled holes in a row. A few people told me these holes are not suppose to be present on A/C cars. What is the answer?
All C2 fiberglass was fabricated for non-A/C cars. Meaning holes were in the fiberglass to install the non-A/C heater box. When the bodyshop got a build order for an A/C car they had a few firewall things to to. Here are three, 1) cut a larger opening in the firewall to accomodate the A/C fan and box 2) put body putty in the holes that were there for the non-A/C heater box 3) drill holes and rivet-in the bracket that the A/C engine side box attaches to. I'll bet the three holes are the ones for the non-A/C box, and yes they are suppose to be there.
If you ever see a car with A/C and you see studs cut off in those holes or you see stude coming out of those holes that car was not born with A/C, it was added. It's counterfit.
Check you AIM and it should be all layed out as to what to cut, putty and add.
