Re: 60 hood question.
Mike, Are you saying that some early 60's used the 59 hood on non top tank radiator cars and all 270hp and FI cars and all later 60's used the 60 hood?- Top

Re: 60 hood question.
Richard,
My apologies. I misread your question. 60 and 59 hoods differed in the front reinforcement area, and were used for all hp models. Your initial question didn't say anything about early 230 hp. I haven't seen all early 60's, but the ones I have seen used the 1960 type, regardless of hp of engine.- Top

Re: 60 hood question.
Mike, Thanks for the information. The reason I asked was because my Jan. 1960 hood's underside looks identical to those I have seen on 59's. Visually I can see no difference between the under side of a 59 hood and the one on my 60. I thought perhaps GM exhausted its supply of 59 hoods on early production NON FI and lower hp. dual quads.- Top

Re: 60 hood question.
Richard,
The lip on the underside of the front of your hood should be different than the 59. If there was any carryover from 59 to 60, it would have ended long before January, since 60 build started already in October of 59.- Top

Re: 60 hood question.
The 60 that I restored was a early November 59 build and it had the 59 hood. Who knows if it was original. The other thing it had that was different in 59 and 60 was the lower front valance bracket. this is a metal bracket that screws to the fiberglass lower nose valance then to the radiator core support. The bracket was missing when I bought the car. I ordered a 60 and the holes would not line up. Then ordered for a 59 and it fit perfect.
Here's a picture that I picked up somewhere that show the differences.

Don,
Thanks for the photos. For some unknown reason I have a 60 with a 59 hood.- Top

Re: 60 hood question.
According to a conversation I had with Tim Mickey last week, 60 hoods showed up on late 59's and 59 hoods were found on early and some mid 60's with 230 & 245 hp.- Top

Re: 60 hood question.
Mike, I would have to offer a referral back to Tim Mickey at Tim Mickeys Car Barn (219-663-2300) for a more specific answer. We were discussing my 60 having a 59 hood and as it tuned out some "late" 59's had 60 hoods as well as early 60's with 59 hoods. Neither of these situations would seem odd to me however, Tim also mentioned that the 59 hood then reappeared in some mid production 60's. I did not ask for numbers or dates and I am not sure Tm even knows, It seemed more like an observation he had made.- Top
