Did the changeover to aluminum heads in mid-1986 require any changes to the block et al to accomodate the heads? Or can any 1986 block be rebuilt as a short block and connected up to the heads and the TPI? Thanks.

Re: Mid-1986 - Aluminum heads
Loren, I don't think the 86 cylinder heads or blocks were modified any everything should bolt -up just fine. In 87 the heads, intake manifold and valve covers were changed, I believe to the center bolt configuration for the valve covers. If the aluminum heads for 86 have a center bolt style valve cover you'll need the valve covers with heads.Last edited by Edward J.; February 24, 2014, 07:37 PM.New England chapter member, 63 Convert. 327/340- Chapter/Regional/national Top Flight, 72 coupe- chapter and regional Top Flight.- Top

Re: Mid-1986 - Aluminum heads
Loren------
There was a difference in the blocks between 1986 cast iron head versus 1986 aluminum head. However, it had absolutely nothing to do with the cylinder heads or their mounting. The difference related to the oil pump mounting configuration. This change occurred coincident with the switch to aluminum heads but, as far as I know, is not related to the head change.
For 1987 things are much different. The blocks were changed significantly for 1987 to accommodate the new roller lifter provisions. In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top
