FWIW, I had an experience just as Bill describes when R&Ring my door locks. Had to flatten the clip and use grease to aid in the install. Miserable job. BTW, does anyone know why/how we have some of these cars with and some without the escutcheon? It's a big mystery to me...

Glad you have it worked out. By the way, assuming you have the same style wire terminal connections as I do, did you put any locktite or anti-sieze on the #6 terminal screws? When I removed my lock to have it re-keyed, the terminal screws were rusted into the terminals and I had to cut the screw heads off, forcibly remove the screw shafts and re-tap the holes. I just sprayed the terminals down with WD-40 upon reassembly but I'm thinking I should do something to keep that from happening again over the NEXT 44 years...
