63 borg warner tranny factory installation

Anyone know the sequence of manufacture and installation of the Borg Warner tranny's.

What interest me is the time frames involved from the Borg Warner plant to the final installation at the assembly line. Casting of the main case ect. then assembly, then shipping to the corvette assembly plant, installation on to the rolling chassis. How long did all this take in normal day to day operations. Thanks Robert

I have a T-10 D case in my 63 coupe that does not have the 62 date cast into the side, it only has (K) then (22) but no (62), it's a early 63 car. I read somewhere that some D cases have this cast date without year, my case is not the original but I tried to find one as close as possible.

Do I have a service replacement main case or are there others with main cases without the 62 or 63 cast in the side.

Tim, All the 63 T10-D cases I have seen has a month-day-year casted in them and my understanding is the T-10D cases are 63 only. It surly sounds like your case is a replacement case for 63 , Was it stamped at all with a assy. stamp?

                Edward,

Yes, it has an assembly stamp and it's K2222, that's all that was there and I had the serial # stamped into it because I could not find the original transmission. I don't have a picture of that side to post.

Attached is a picture of the main case showing what I am talking about. I need to correct the casting date I reported, it looks like (K) (4) but no year. I think there is no (I) used on these T-10's so the date would be October 4 if I got it right. My coupe was built second week November 62.

Looking at the pics, there is a B cast above then K in one boss then 4 in the other raised boss but on most there is then a 62 or 63 next where this one does not have that.

                  My ’63 was built April 18, 1963. The T-10 dates were: assembly March 12, 1963, Main Case B 27 63 (Feb 27, 63), Side Cover dated 12-12-62, Tail T10-7D, 3813490, Dated 2-8-63.

Various dates and correlatons would be very interesting IF transmisions were used on a First In, First Out basis, but they were not, either at time of assembly or when installed in St Louis.

My 63 was built Sept. 27,1962. Some dates on my T-10 are:
                        Assembly date, August 10,1962
                        Tail, T-10-7D, dated May 25,62

Harry, Its my understanding that the close ratios transmissions were installed only on the SHP motors. Does that sound correct?

That's correct. Looking to see if there is a timeline difference between 250/300 and 340/360 on Trans build dates.
