The radio in my 84 Vette does not say Bose on it anywhere. It has fade controls for left and right and front and rear speakers. I understand these adjustments are not present on a Bose radio. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

Re: Bose Radio ??????
In 1984 you could order:
no radio UL5 or 104 cars
AM/FM Stereo Cassette UM6 or 6,689 car
AM/Fm Stereo cassette Citizens Band UN8 or 178 cars
Stereo System Delco-Bose UU8 or 43,607 cars
So your car is one of the 6,800 + cars without Bose.Last edited by Paul O.; February 21, 2014, 06:45 PM.- Top

Re: Bose Radio ??????
Paul, thanks for the reply. This is good information. I purchased this car used, but it originally had a Bose system. All the Bose speakers are in the car. I suspect a previous owner installed a non Bose receiver which does not work with the Bose speakers. Before I trash this radio I just wanted some extra assurance it was not a Bose radio. It is my understanding that the Bose radios did not have the left, right, front, back fade adjustments. All these adjustments were preset inside the radio and not available for adjustment. I have not actually seen one of the Bose radios to compare mine with. If someone who has an 1984 Corvette could send me a picture of their Bose radio I would know what one looks like. Thanks to anyone who can help.- Top

Thomas
In your center console door I be leave is an option label for the car. I had an 85 so it could be in another place on an 84. Check and see what code is listed from my earlier post to verify if it originally came with a Bose system. Here is a listing from ebay with photos.

Re: Bose Radio ??????
Thanks again Paul. The picture on ebay is different from my radio. The top left control knob on the ebay radio does not appear to have the left/right fade control. It says on/off where my radio shows L/R fade control. Also the ebay radio has a label that says it is a Bose radio and mine does not. I am sure my car came with the Bose system since all the speakers are there with the chambers and the amps. Looks like I need a Bose radio to see if all my speakers and amps are working. I don't really want to purchase a Bose radio just to find out there are problems with my amps etc.I would not know if the radio was bad or my speaker amps are bad. Maybe I will just install another type radio with a cd player etc. I am sure I checked my option label, but I will recheck just to make sure. I really appreciate your help.- Top

Re: Bose Radio ??????
I checked the options label on my car and it confirms that my car came with a Bose radio system. I have also confirmed that my radio is not a Bose. The correct radio for my car 1984 would be a Bose and it would not have the left/right fade control dial. I am not sure if all Bose radios do not have the left/right control dial. If anyone knows the answer to this I would like to know. I read in the 1984 GM electrical supplement service manual that these radios did not have left/right fade control but did have front/rear fade control only. If anyone reading this knows where I can find a good radio for my car let me know. Thanks.I am also in need of a new or repaired power antenna for my car. If anyone has replaced the mast in one of these antennas I would like to know if it is hard to do. I have already removed my antenna and the motor seems to be ok, but the plastic cable is broken in several places. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks.- Top

The antenna cable assembly is discontinued from GM. However, a replacement is available from Corvette Central for about 40 bucks.
A complete antenna assembly is available under GM #12355706. However, it carries a GM list price of about 350 bucks. In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Re: Bose Radio ??????
Looks like I'm at the end of my rope and out of luck unless I want to spend big bucks to restore the Bose system in my car. I do not have a Bose radio and I do not have a working power antenna (the cable is broken inside and the mast is also messed up, it has been bent and has a hole in it). Installing a new cable would not be hard, but installing a new mast (lower section is messed up) looks like a very difficult job and not worth the trouble, plus I am not sure about the condition of my speaker amps. I think I will install another type radio for now. I will not cut into or destroy the radio wiring harness just in case I or someone else may someday want to restore the Bose system. I want to thank everyone who responded and helped me out with this issue. I have spent too many hours trying to solve this problem but I have also learned a lot in doing so. Now I am ready to move on and get this car on the road. Thanks again to all. You guys are great.- Top

Regardless of what radio you add, you're still going to need an antenna. In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Re: Bose Radio ??????
Jim, sorry it has taken me so long to reply. Life gets in the way. This is still an ongoing project for me. I did purchase a used Bose radio on Ebay and it seems to be working ok. I also purchased a new antenna but it stuck in one position up or down I can't recall and ran my battery down in one night. I am considering a fixed antenna to keep from having to worry about this in the future. It looks like someone may have replaced both my front speakers from maybe a later year because the wire colors on the speakers do not match the wire colors shown in the 1984 GM Electrical Troubleshooting Shop Manual. When you purchase a used vehicle you never know what you will find. I am getting some static sometimes from my speakers that I haven't solved yet. I hope all my amps are ok. Thanks for replying. Have a good day.- Top
