    Ralph's 70 LT-!

    Hi,
Ralph Spears asked me to post these pictures for him.
    Check out that engine compartment!
I'm sure he'll post some comments!
    Regards,
    Alan

Thanks Ralph and Alan. Love seeing those unrestored engine compartments. I really like that late '69 early '70- 2 piece distributor box.

1968's also had the two piece unit.

Actually the '69 shielding was 2 piece but the early '70 distributor shielding was 3 piece. From the picture it looks like that box is two piece, which was correct for a '69 but not for a '70 . You can tell by the two small screws on the passenger side of the box which are missing in the picture.

Edit: After further review, I zoomed in on the box and I believe that the holes for the screws are there, but the screws aren't attached. Also, when I say 3 piece I include the top as one of the pieces.

            Thanks.

Very nice, I'd love to hear the story behind it.

Yes 3 pieces counting the lid. The 3 piece was used late '69 from at least September on through about mid '70.

                  I had a 1970 L46 #6224 which had a 3 piece distributor box just like this one.

I bought it in 1974 and drove it for 20 years, parked it in 1994 and there it sits in the garage. I think it has 60,000 miles on it. have not looked at it for a long time.

                      Ken,
As you do the research on that 'feature' be sure to separate big block from small block.

Edit add:My 1970 SB #2161 has a three piece distributor shield. Ralph's car is later in the 6000 range IIRC
