    1977 Chevrolet Corvette

I'm considering this car but I don't know much about these C3s. Do we have anyone in Hershey, Pennsylvania that can check this car out for me? I realize that car purchases have to be inspected in person, but from the photos, can I get some general feedback.

Ed, note the shielding is missing, fender alarm and side flags. I have to check for VIN when the flags were added and the alarm lock was moved to the door. I can't tell from pics but check the front fenders where they meet the bumper. A number of the cars were delivered with 2-3 inch cracks due to dirty molds not cleaned. Is original spare still with the car? Check the AC compressor as they were notorious for crapping out the first year. Check radiator for deterioration and trailing arm bearings. They are pretty reliable cars. I have had few problems with mine since I took delivery. I have had a ball with mine. What do you want to do with it, drive, get it judged, is originality important to you? Steve

Steve, thanks for the reply. I will check into your recommendations. I'm looking for a reliable driver. What your opinion in terms of price for a car like this.

While tough to get a really good look at it, from what I can see of the chassis it looks extremely clean.

Ed...might behoove you to reach out to old member # 14, the good old Doc McCagh...he lives in Cumberland, MD where the car grew up...and he probably knows the car or owner...however, he figures there weren't any Corvettes built after 1967...but it's worth a shot...

From what I see, it is worth pursuing. The seller states its original paint but looks awful shiney. But as Patrick points out, chassis looks clean and it sounds like it has been well cared for over the years. The interior shows normal wear but I don't see evidence it is ragged out. The radiator looks like a GM hose and could still be the original...wires (plug) are original but the oil cap has been replaced with a chrome cap. Typical...my 78 L48 had same thing done to it but the original owner had the original cap.

I see the reserve is not met but current bid is $8,100. It will be interesting to see how high it goes...a few thousand more still makes it a nice pickup. Good luck and keep us posted...wish I were closer to chocolate town.

Guys, thanks for the responses. I spoke to the owner today and he seems to be a nice fellow. He's looking to get between 14K and 15K for the car, which I find to be very high. I don't think the bid will go beyond 10K.

Ed, the car does look very nice. $14-15K seems a couple K too high to me for an L-48, TH 350. The orange rear shocks look like replacements and the lower A-arms are very shiney, more so than my 12K mile '78, still, a nice car. Steve

                  Re: 1977 Chevrolet Corvette

Member McCagh who I believe is a past NCRS President probably does know the car. A friend of mine a I picked up a Z06 in DC and drove thru W.Virgina..we stopped for dinner in Cumberland and a fellow came up to us to talk about the Z06 and asked if we knew Mike McCagh?

Like my private msg..car looks good..the side emblems and cross flags on fenders was all done with the early cars before being dropped with just alarm on fender. This car can't be too or real early as it has a "blue painted engine".

What I would be willing to pay...$12-15k...if bidding stopped at $10 would pay only near $12.

The blue engines came about in the August-September time frame. I have seen two original orange engine '77's, one at a dealer in September '76. It was a white with white/red interior, L-82, 4 speed, 3.70, YJ-8. My first week of November assembly '77 does not have flags. Another Corvette, Orange with saddle leather, on the hauler in early November did not have flags, either. Agree with Peter's pay.
